The Most Important Body Part

My mother used to ask me:
"What is the most important part of the body?"

Through the years I would take a guess at what I thought was the correct answer.

When I was younger, I thought sound was very important to us as humans, so I said, "My ears, Mommy."
She said, "No Many people are deaf.
But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon."

Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my first attempt, I had contemplated the correct answer. So this time I told her, "Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes. She looked at me and told me, "You are learning fast, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind."

Stumped again, I continued my quest for knowledge. Over the years, Mother asked me a couple more times and always her answer was, "No, but you are getting smarter every year, my child."

Then last year, my grandpa died.
Everybody was hurt.
Everybody was crying.
Even my father cried.
I remember that especially because it was only the second time I saw him cry. My Mom looked at me when it was our turn to say our final good-bye to Grandpa.

She asked me, "Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?"

I was shocked when she asked me this now.
I always thought this was a game between her and me.
She saw the confusion on my face and told me, "This question is very important.
It shows that you have really lived in your life.

For every body part you gave me in the past, I have told you was wrong and I have given you an example why.
But today is the day you need to learn this important lesson."

She looked down at me as only a mother can.
I saw her eyes well up with tears. She said,

"My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder."

I asked, "Is it because it holds up my head?"
She replied, "No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or a loved one when they cry.

Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in life, my dear.
I only hope that you have enough love and friends that you will always have a shoulder to cry on when you need it."

Then and there I knew the most important body part is not a selfish one. It is sympathetic to the pain of others.

People will forget what you said...
People will forget what you did....
But people will NEVER forget how you made them feel.

I showered and shaved.............. I adjusted my tie...
I got there and sat............. In a pew just in time...

Bowing my head in prayer......... As I closed my eyes.
I saw the shoe of the man next to me...... Touching my own. I sighed.

With plenty of room on either side...... I thought, 'Why must our soles
touch?'
It bothered me, his shoe touching mine... But it didn't bother him much.

A prayer began: 'Our Father'.............
I thought, 'This man with the shoes, has no pride..

They're dusty, worn, and scratched. Even worse, there are holes on the
side!'

'Thank You for blessings,' the prayer went on.
The shoe man said................. A quiet 'Amen.'
I tried to focus on the prayer...... But my thoughts were on his shoes
again.

Aren't we supposed to look our best. When walking through that door?
'Well, this certainly isn't it,' I thought, Glancing toward the floor...

Then the prayer was ended............ And the songs of praise began.
The shoe man was certainly loud........ Sounding proud as he sang.

His voice lifted the rafters............ His hands were raised high.
The Lord could surely hear. The shoe man's voice from the sky.

It was time for the offering......... And what I threw in was steep.
I watched as the shoe man reached..... Into his pockets so deep.

I saw what was pulled out............ What the shoe man put in.
Then I heard a soft 'clink'. As when silver hits tin.

The sermon really bored me.......... To tears, and that's no lie..
It was the same for the shoe man... For tears fell from his eyes.

At the end of the service....... As is the custom here.
We must greet new visitors, And show them all good cheer.

But I felt moved somehow................ And wanted to meet the shoe man..
So after the closing prayer........ I reached over and shook his hand.

He was old and his skin was dark..... And his hair was truly a mess.
But I thanked him for coming.......... For being our guest.

He said, 'My name's Charlie.......... I'm glad to meet you, my friend.'
There were tears in his eyes........... But he had a large, wide grin.

'Let me explain,' he said........... Wiping tears from his eyes.
'I've been coming here for months...... And you're the first to say 'Hi..''

'I know that my appearance...........Is not like all the rest...
'But I really do try......................To always look my best.

'I always clean and polish my shoes.. Before my very long walk.
'But by the time I get here.........They're dirty and dusty, like chalk.

My heart filled with pain........... And I swallowed to hide my tears..
As he continued to apologize.......... For daring to sit so near.

He said, 'When I get here................'I know I must look a sight.
'But I thought if I could touch you.. Then maybe our souls might unite.'

I was silent for a moment............ Knowing whatever was said
Would pale in comparison... I spoke from my heart, not my head.

'Oh, you've touched me,' I said......'And taught me, in part;
'That the best of any man..............Is what is found in his heart'

The rest, I thought,................. This shoe man will never know.
Like just how thankful I really am... That his dirty old shoe touched my
soul.

You are special to me and you have made a difference in my life...

Send this to your friends, no matter how often you talk,
Or how close you are, let old friends know you haven't forgotten them,
and tell new friends you never will.
Remember, everyone needs a friend.
Someday you might feel like you have no friends at all.
Just remember this e-mail and take comfort in knowing that
Someone out there cares about you.

The only survivor of a shipwreck washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly to be rescued, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements and to store his few possessions.

Then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stung with grief and anger.

"God, how could you do this to me!" he cried and complained.

Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ships horn that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers.

"We saw your smoke signal," they replied.

Many blessings come in disguises. Often they show up as uncomfortable or even dangerous and painful situations. And often only later, sometimes decades later, does the true purpose of something revealed.

A Friend shared this article with me and I want to share it with you.

Why do I have a variety of friends who are all different in character ?
How do I get on with them all ?
I think that each one helps to bring out a "different" part of me..
With one of them I am a polite, good girl.
I joke with another friend.
I sit down and talk about serious matters with one of them.
With another I giggle at every silly thing.
I have my tea with one
And dance with another.
I listen to one friend's problems and give her advice
Then I listen to another advising me.
They are all like pieces of a jigsaw,
When completed they form a treasure box.
A treasure of friends!
They are my friends who understand me better than myself,
who support me through good days and bad days.
They are like colourful anti-depressants that I take on different days.

Real Age doctors tell us that friends are good for our health.
Dr. Oz calls them Vitamins F (from Friends) and counts the benefits of friends to our well being.
Research shows that people in strong social circles have less risk of depression
and terminal strokes. If you take Vitamin F constantly you can be up to 30 years younger
than your real age. The warmth of friendship stops stress and even in your tense moments
it decreases the chance of a cardiac arrest or stroke by 50 %.
I am so happy that I have a stock of Vitamins F!

In summary we should value our friends and keep in touch with them.
We should try to see the funny side of things and laugh together, not forgetting
to open our mouths big to swallow the floating vitamins F !!!!

One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a
well. The animal cried piteously for hours as
the farmer tried to figure out what to do.

Finally, he decided the animal was old, and the
well needed to be covered up anyway;
it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.

He invited all his neighbors to come over and
help him. They all grabbed a shovel and began
to shovel dirt into the well. At first, the
donkey realized what was happening and cried
horribly. Then, to everyone's amazement he
quieted down.

A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally
looked down the well. He was astonished at what
he saw. With each shovel of dirt that hit his
back, the donkey was doing something amazing.
He would shake it off and take a step up.

As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel
dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it
off and take a step up.

Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey
stepped up over the edge of the well and
happily trotted off!

*****
Life is going to shovel dirt on you, all kinds
of dirt. The trick to getting out of the well
is to shake it off and take a step up. Each of
our troubles is a steppingstone. We can get out
of the deepest wells just by not stopping,
never giving up! Shake it off and take a step up.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

Free your heart from hatred - Forgive.

Free your mind from worries - Most never happen.

Live simply and appreciate what you have.

Give more.

Expect less.

The coffee is brewing...enjoy it!

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university professor. Conversation soon turned into
complaints about stress in work and life.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups - porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite - telling
them to help themselves to the coffee.

All the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is but normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress.

Be assured that the cup itself, adds no quality to the coffee in most cases, just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.

What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups...and then began eyeing each other's cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee, and the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain Life, and the type of cup we have does not define, nor change the quality of Life we live. Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us."

God brews the coffee, not the cups..........enjoy your coffee.

A very small female janitor (4'10", 90 pounds) worked at an amusement park
and was told to go out and sweep up the grounds. As she was getting ready to
head out to clean up, her supervisor noticed her putting rocks in her
pockets. When asked what she was doing, she pointed out that it was so windy
out she was afraid of getting knocked over by the wind.

'So,' she said, 'now I weigh me down to sweep.'
